OGUN POLICE DEPLOYS PERSONNEL TO CHURCHES, MOSQUES


ABEOKUTA—TO forestall unforeseen attacks on places of worship in Ogun State, the state  Police Command said it had deployed   combat-ready policemen to mosques and churches across the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okoye Ikemefuna, at a stakeholders forum, said that  the gesture  was embraced to secure religious places against attacks, especially on worship days.
Okoye said the command had intensified efforts to save lives and property in  worship places, adding that the command had instructed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers,DPO,  to provide cover for religious places during services on Sundays and Fridays.
The police boss, who  hinted that the command  was also working tirelessly to check and combat influx of arms and ammunition from nations sharing borders with the state, assured the people of the state of adequate security of life and property.
He said: ”We are doing all within our power to make sure that we reduce crime to its barest minimum and to also make everyone sleep with their  eyes closed.
”The command will deploy more men to some strategic places to ensure adequate security of life and property.”
Okoye advised those who attended the meeting not to relent in giving useful information that would enhance the performance of the police in the state.
He assured that identity of anyone who volunteered information to the police would be jealously guided.
